Christine is a 6th generation native of California, originally from Thousand Oaks. She attended Moorpark College and then studied business at CSUF. She eventually left her career in business to raise her family, but continued her lifelong creative outlets with photography, piano and ceramics. In 2003, she discovered the art of kiln formed glass, and its alluring qualities of light, depth and texture...and there was no turning back. She developed a passion for learning more about this captivating medium and its endless possibilities. Christine continued her education, instructed by many of the world’s foremost glass artists in cities from New York to Seattle, and is an alumni of Pilchuck Glass School.
Having lived in California all of my life, I have felt a deep connection to the ocean and shores for as long as I can remember. My parents had a weekend beach house and sailing was something our family regularly did together. I also recall bodysurfing one day, when the ocean nearly killed and then saved me... I had been endlessly tumbling head over heels, but then miraculously landed on my feet at that very last second, for air. From that day forward, I had a new respect for its power and strength. There is no other place like the ocean. It's peaceful, calming qualities touch my heart. Just being out on the water, or on land, and seeing the shear beauty at sunset can leave me breathless.
My glass art is inspired by personal experiences, combined with my compelling respect of the ocean's depth, mystery and power. In a sense, my wall panels and sculptures are abstract representations of this continuing connection. They are translations of thoughts and feelings into movement, texture, form and color. One work may represent the meditative experience of watching the ebb and flow of the waves and tides. The next, may take me well out to sea, far enough from land... to be completely immersed in its magnificence. Each one of my pieces are unique, telling its own special story. The crashing waves on a stormy day, the feel of soft warm sands beneath my feet, gentle breezes, and the mysteries that lie beneath ... These moments and elements are incorporated into my various compositions.
Like glass, the ocean is strong, yet at the same time, it is also fragile. Hopefully, my art will also serve as reminders of the delicate balance and respect that must be maintained in order to preserve our ocean's vitality.
